Madan’s Manchester
Madan, from Nepal, is studying the LLM International Business and Commercial Law at Manchester. Here he talks about choosing the course, his student experience, and what his plans are for the future.
On studying your course
I chose the LLM in International Business and Commercial Law because it is closely related to the policy field. I was working before joining the course, and I believe that international commerce and trade are the key factors of contemporary national policy.
On your student experience
This course will help me to draft effective policies in my country and I am sure it will contribute the overall economic development of my nation. My experience at Manchester has uplifted my analytical skills and understanding of national and international commercial and investment practices and regulations, which is undoubtedly the most important aspect of the economic development of any nation.
Meet the Academics
Manchester has a variety of outstanding Law experts who advise and assist our students' academic progress.
Professor Jean D'aspremont
Professor of International Law
As Professor of International Law and Director of Research in the Law School, Jean is known as a true expert in his field.
"I am particularlyinterested in the structure of the international legal discourse and the hidden patterns of thoughts in international legal argumentation. My forthcoming book 'After Meaning', claims that meaning is perpetually absent from the forms of the international egal discourse."
Dr Iain Brassington
Senior Lecturer
A philosopher by training, Iain’s research focuses on clarifying the moral concepts that inform how we think about law and make policy decisions.
"A really important aspect of what we do is getting students to appreciate that understanding law is not just a matter of knowing the rules, but also one of getting to grips with why they are what they are, and whether they should be different. And that can be enormous fun."
Dr Vincenzo Bravoso
Senior Lecturer in Commercial Law
Vincenzo is a course director and teaches on three of the LLMs. His research interests lie at the intersection of corporate law and financial law.
"I had practised law in the broad areas of private and commercial law. We were in the mid- 2000s, and we had just been shaken by the wave of corporate scandals in North America and then eventually in Italy too. I wanted to know more about the motives underpinning those scandals and the ensuing crisis.
Dr Abubakri Yekini
Lecturer in Commercial Law
Abubakri is a lecturer in Commercial Law. He is the Course Director for International Sale of Goods and Principles and Practice of Commercial Law. His research interests lie within the sphere of commercial conflict of laws, and international commercial law.
"As the Programme Director for LLM General/ Commercial Law and the Coordinator of the LLM Research Skills sessions, my primary goal is to create a supportive and enriching learning environment that enhances the student experience and fosters academic growth."
